MY EXPERIENCE WITH TCS INTERVIEW Since, this time TCS has kept a panel interview I was somewhat tensed, I have got panel 9 and I am 5th member on first day, and one more thing is that I am first member from ECE, not even able to guess the questions, So, guessing all the questions and thinking about the answers. No sooner my turn came and I went inside. As soon as I went inside I have wished them “A very Good Morning Sir” with a smile. There are three persons First person, middle person, and last person (HR). Of the first two persons I don’t know who is TR and MR because both have asked me Technical questions. Middle person seeing my spectacles asked how I got sight by studying more or TV I said “By birth Sir”. They told sorry, I said “No problem Sir”. First two persons are talking to me but last person is silent then I concluded that he is HR, but while telling answers I was also seeing him. First person asked to tell about my Mini Project, I said “Sir, I have done my mini project at GVP SIRC (Scientific and Industrial Research Centre) under guidance of Prof Rao Tatavarti, D.R.D.O. Scientist, We have done a module called Vibration Monitoring System where the functioning of a machine can be monitored and its behavior can be known by studying its vibrations, present systems require direct contact but our system can monitor from about a K.M distance where we incident a Laser beam on the machine some part of the wave reflected back and some Diffracted which contains the information about the machine’s vibration”, The first person asked what is diffraction, I said “when we incident a Laser beam on a body some gets reflected and some passes through it called diffracted wave (Not correct but I told it confidently as if it was correct, of course they believed me),”I continued reflected light is made to fall on a photo diode the vibrations of Laser are converted as oscillations in current and we interfaced to PC by means of LabVIEW (meanwhile the first person is searching the net about LabVIEW ) where we can process the signal further, where LabVIEW is a software where we can interface external hardware to PC. Our project is a Citation and our Prof has a patent on this concept and we are in a plan of publishing an article in IEEE and also we have presented it in ICCNASP, an International conference at VIT.”
First person drew a circuit with Inductor, Capacitor in series connected to A.C source and asked me what will happen if AC is replaced with DC, I took the paper and explained that capacitor becomes open circuit and inductor short circuit at steady state after some oscillations. Second person asked me to draw the symbol of Photo diode, I drew and showed him, he asked what will happen if we connect a dc source to the photo diode, I said it works as a normal diode
Second person took the previous circuit and asked me what will happen if we connect bothac and dc source for inductor and capacitor, I told that there will be some disturbance but the ac oscillations continue with a dc level shift and drew the wave forms. He asked me difference
between sine and cosine waves, I said that its just a delayed version and there is no effect on the system.
He also asked about Zener diode and difference between zener and normal diode, I said that zener is heavily doped and when used in reverse bias it will bear to some extent and later breaks down by providing constant voltage across where normal diode not so
He also asked significance of the symbol of diode , I told that the arrow indicates the direction of flow of electrons and direction of current is reverse to the direction of electrons
(Actually I told reverse but that person confused and didn’t find that I told wrong and also thinking about next question)
First person asked the working of a bell, I said “A bell contains a piezoelectric material, whenever we send a signal of some frequency, it produces sound of some audible range (20Hz to 20 KHz)”, second person asked how do u send wave, I said with help of a microcontroller But first person asked about the bell which is rung by our hand, I said whenever we disturb a body with external force it oscillates with natural vibrations, and so by some mechanism we are disturbing the bell thereby causing sound, he asked what is the law I said its resonance(wrong answer) he repeated u are applying the force on the bell and u r hearing sound energy what is the law, I instantaneously reacted and exhausted, its law of conservation of enegy ie energy can neither be created nor destroyed if disappears in one form appears in another form (this time convinced)
Middle person asked bubble shot algorithm, I explained taking four numbers and he was convinced and asked the difference between bubble shot and others and I told this is more effective, he asked formula and I said I don’t remember he has given me some hint I said I don’t remember.
Middle person asked how do u reverse ur name without using string functions, I said first I will find length of my name by searching the null pointer and run the for loop in reverse direction and print the characters in reverse……..
First person asked how do u find average, I said take the sum of entries and divide by n, mean while middle person asked me how do u find mean, I am somewhat shocked and also thinking first person asked what is the difference between mean and avg, (trying to hide that I don’t know) I said mean is more accurate than avg (I am not satisfied but they have not observed because they thinking what to ask next question)
Second person asked whether I know probability, I said yes. (middle person have more subject and also very intelligent). He asked the probability of getting head when we toss a coin I said ½. He asked what is the prob when it tossed 100 times. I said (1/2)^100. He asked what is the prob when u toss 100 coins 100 times, I have gone mad but I said 100C2 ……(trying) he repeated the question and said to think generally, I said 50% (don’t know correct ans), he was convinced. Now its HR’s turn, he asked me will you work during holidays, I said “Sir, u r paying us, so I wll definitely work, I will develop my selves and also develop company” Will u work anywhere in India, I said “I am also interested to work in foreign if u give me an opportunity Sir”. Will u work late nights, I said “I will definitely because during exams we do the same but next day I want a holiday Sir!!!”, he said that he will provide (first two persons are smiling) He asked will u write a bond, I said yes. Are there any backlogs, I said no. He said u can go. I said thank u sir……. The interview took place for about 16 minutes(apprx) And finally I won the war.
